This time, students from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully developed an environmentally friendly food packaging alternative to styrofoam through the Student Creativity Program – Entrepreneurship (PKM-K). The product, named BIOFLAEIS, is a biofoam made from waste materials such as oil palm fronds (Elaeis guineensis) and papaya leaves (Carica papaya).

The award also demonstrates how innovations from USU students, driven by science, technology, and creativity, can have a tangible impact in addressing pressing environmental issues within society.

USU Public Relations – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an audience with its outstanding students at the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations (DITMAWALUMNI), USU Rectorate Bureau, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. This activity served as a platform for dialogue between the university leadership and students to present and discuss their recent academic and non-academic accomplishments.

“The Era of Ultimate Excellence is a phase in which USU will not only grow, but also leap to greater heights. We are not merely chasing rankings, but building a university that creates a broad impact for the nation,” affirmed Prof. Muryanto during the rector candidate hearing held some time ago.
