Community Service Activities

The community service activities conducted by lecturers of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), included antenatal examinations and ultrasonography (USG) for pregnant women, gallstone screening, hemoglobin (Hb) and random blood glucose (RBG) tests for the public, as well as emergency response training for healthcare personnel at RSUD Tafaeri. The activities were warmly welcomed by residents, who filled the available service rooms and even crowded the hospital corridors.

Kutagugung Village, Karo – Once overshadowed by uncertainty and tourism asset conflicts, Kutagugung Village has now transformed into a new tourism destination known as Foursety. This significant transformation was made possible through the community service program of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), led by Samerdanta Sinulingga, S.ST.Par., M.Par., together with interdisciplinary faculty members and students directly engaged on the ground.

Professor Rahmawaty, the program coordinator, explained, “This program is funded by the Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Universitas Sumatera Utara. Through this initiative, USU aims to actively contribute to conserving natural resources and the environment while establishing strategic partnerships with national and international universities.”

A total of 200 mangrove seedlings were successfully planted on empty land formed due to recent coastal abrasion. Planting has been carried out in stages since January 2024, involving at least 80 students. This planting activity is a form of implementing community service activities (PPM) of the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara.
