“This collaboration is expected to support joint research whose outcomes can enhance USU’s international reputation while also contributing to and making an impact on development in Indonesia,” he said.

USU PUBLIC RELATIONS – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has established an academic and international partnership with Pingxiang University, China, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held on Monday (November 2, 2026), at the Equity Room, USU Rectorate Building. This partnership marks a strategic step toward expanding international networks, promoting research collaboration, and strengthening USU’s academic contributions at the global level.

USU Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., welcomed the delegation from Pingxiang University and expressed his hope that the signing of the MoU would open up opportunities for collaboration in various academic fields. He explained that the two universities share common ground in several disciplines, including engineering, economics, and business. In addition, Pingxiang University has strengths in digital economics and research oriented toward the needs of local governments.

“This collaboration is expected to support joint research whose outcomes can enhance USU’s international reputation while also contributing to and making an impact on development in Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Himsar stated that the partnership is also expected to provide opportunities for USU’s academic community to develop joint research, particularly through collaborative research funding opportunities between Indonesia and China. He also highlighted the potential for joint research funding initiatives developed by the governments of both countries through cooperation schemes involving the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

“We hope this MoU will serve as a gateway for USU’s academic community to find research partners in China. We encourage researchers to start preparing proposals when opportunities for joint research funding become available. If they need research partners, we are ready to help connect them with Pingxiang University,” he added.

Through the signing of this MoU, USU is expected to expand its academic partnerships with international universities, particularly in research, scientific development, and expertise exchange. This collaboration also forms part of USU’s efforts to enhance its competitiveness as a university and strengthen its role in producing research that benefits society and contributes to development.
