USU Holds Orientation for Deans, Vice Deans, Directors, and Vice Directors of the Graduate School

Muryanto Amin, Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, emphasized that leadership positions within the university are mandates that must be carried out collaboratively and with full responsibility.
Medan, HUMAS USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara conducted an orientation program for Faculty Deans, Directors of the Graduate School, Vice Deans, and Vice Directors of the Graduate School at the 8th Floor Hall of the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB) on Wednesday (May 5, 2026). The activity was part of the university’s effort to strengthen coordination and align the leadership’s vision for the next five years.
Rector of USU, Muryanto Amin, emphasized that leadership positions within the university are mandates that must be carried out collaboratively and responsibly.
“This orientation is important to strengthen understanding regarding the functions and roles of each leader so that they can work synergistically in addressing various issues within the university,” he stated.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining unity following the leadership selection process by continuing to involve all elements of the academic community in the university’s development programs.
“Communication and collaboration among leaders are key factors in ensuring that every work program is implemented effectively, strategically, and sustainably,” he said.
In addition, Prof. Muryanto stressed the importance of data-driven policymaking in supporting institutional development.
“Student data, lecturers’ research, and academic development patterns need to be analyzed systematically so that the programs implemented can generate innovations and meaningful changes for the university,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs, Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, stated that improving student achievements remains one of the primary focuses in academic and student affairs development.
“The achievements of USU students over the past five years have continued to improve, although they still need to be strengthened more evenly across all faculties, particularly at the international level,” she remarked.
She also underlined the importance of increasing the response rate of alumni tracer studies to better map graduates’ career pathways.
“Tracer studies are important instruments for monitoring graduates’ continuity, whether they are employed, pursuing entrepreneurship, or continuing their studies,” she explained.
Furthermore, Prof. Poppy emphasized the strengthening of inbound and outbound student programs as part of efforts to expand students’ academic experiences and networks at both national and international levels.
“Strengthening student mobility is an important part of enhancing academic experience and improving the global competitiveness of USU students,” she added.
Through this orientation program, university leaders are expected to strengthen synergy, foster innovation, and implement leadership that is adaptive to global challenges.
“This activity serves as a momentum to reinforce our shared commitment in driving academic transformation and improving institutional quality toward a more excellent, competitive, and globally recognized USU,” she concluded.
