USU PR — Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is strengthening its strategic steps toward realizing the vision of “The Era of Ultimate Excellence” under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.I.Kom. Through a meeting on the implementation of academic affairs, student affairs, and alumni relations, USU reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out comprehensive transformations in its education system and academic governance to enhance the competitiveness of the institution and its graduates at the global level. The meeting was held at the 8th floor of the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB) on Tuesday (11/08/2026).

During the meeting, the Rector outlined three main priority pillars. First, internationalization, with a target of having at least one study program offer a double degree or joint degree scheme, accompanied by the expansion of student mobility programs. Second, the downstreaming of faculty research innovations so that they can generate tangible impacts and benefits for society. Third, the establishment of academic groups based on a Knowledge-Based Economy (KBE) to strengthen faculty expertise profiles and the research ecosystem on campus.

Academic strengthening encompasses improvements throughout the student experience cycle. Comprehensive adjustments are being made, starting from New Student Admission (PMB), refinement of the PKKMB program, implementation of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) scheme, to industry internships based on the link and match principle. Learning quality is also being enhanced through an increased proportion of international faculty and the implementation of an Outcome-Based Education (OBE)-based curriculum.

“Classroom learning is now being transformed through active, student-centered approaches, such as Project-Based Learning, case studies, and the utilization of digital technology. In addition, graduates’ career readiness is strengthened through personal branding initiatives, including digital CVs and portfolios, competency certifications, capstone projects, as well as alumni involvement in mentoring and providing employment opportunities,” the Rector explained.

The Rector said these measures are further strengthened through the 2027 Priority Agenda, which establishes a comprehensive review of the PMB process, clarity of learning systems—including complete online RPS, transparency in final project examinations, and scientific publication training—post-learning evaluations, as well as the implementation of performance-based incentives and sanctions.

“All of these ongoing programs are fully supported by the USU Training Center, which functions as a Training of Trainers (ToT) center, a hub for developing innovative teaching methods for faculty members, and a platform for integrated monitoring of improvements in learning quality,” he said.
