USU officially graduated 1,586 students during the 2025/2026 Period III commencement ceremony, with Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin encouraging graduates to contribute meaningfully to society.
HUMAS USU – Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., officially conferred degrees upon 1,586 graduates during the Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2025/2026 Period III, held at the USU Auditorium on May 8–9, 2026. With this ceremony, the total number of USU alumni has reached 277,132, reinforcing USU’s position as one of the major universities in Sumatra that continues to produce competitive graduates.
The graduates consisted of 34 doctoral graduates, 186 master’s graduates, 49 specialist program graduates, 3 sub-specialist graduates, 56 medical master’s program graduates, 353 professional education graduates, 896 undergraduate graduates, and 9 diploma graduates.
In his speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin congratulated all graduates for successfully completing their studies at Universitas Sumatera Utara.
“May the knowledge you have gained during your studies become a valuable provision in life and bring wider benefits to society and the surrounding environment,” he stated.
He emphasized that university graduates are expected not only to excel academically but also to adapt and contribute meaningfully to society.
“Hopefully, the education you have completed will lead you toward the career you aspire to or encourage you to pursue higher education in order to further improve your competence and skills,” he added.
The Rector also expressed appreciation to the parents and families who had continuously supported the graduates throughout their educational journey.
“May Allah SWT reward all the sacrifices and dedication of the parents who have accompanied their children until they successfully completed their education,” he said.
Among the graduates, dr. Agnelisa Putria Harahap shared her experience during her medical professional education at USU. According to her, one of the biggest challenges was balancing study time with hospital duties.
“As medical students, we definitely had to study harder. During the professional stage, the challenge was managing time and dealing with exhaustion while working at the hospital,” she explained.
Similarly, dr. Ruth Maria Situmorang stated that students must be able to balance academics, organizational activities, and personal life during their studies.
“We need to study hard, but also stay active in organizations, committees, and other activities. So, the most important thing is really time management,” she said.
Meanwhile, Adli Nadhif, M.P., shared his experience conducting research outside the province, which became one of the challenges in completing his studies.
“The difficulty was the distance because my research was conducted outside the province. But I think we just have to keep going, even when feeling burned out or exhausted, because eventually, God willing, we can graduate on time,” he said.
Closing his speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin encouraged all graduates to continue learning, uphold integrity, and use their knowledge to make real contributions to society.
“Keep learning, striving, and contributing positively to your surroundings. May all USU graduates become individuals who bring goodness to society,” he concluded.
