This article discusses the readiness of businesses in Medan and its surrounding areas to face ASEAN economic integration through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). In collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the program aims to provide understanding and strategies for business actors to effectively respond to regional economic dynamics.
Enhancing knowledge on business readiness to face ASEAN economic integration was carried out as part of community service, which is one of the pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Through community service activities in the form of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted both face-to-face and via Zoom Meeting, it is expected that stakeholders, especially business actors in Medan and its surrounding areas, will gain a basic understanding of the steps and strategies needed to face ASEAN economic integration, which began in 2015 and continues to develop dynamically.
The National University of Singapore (NUS) was chosen as a partner in this international community service program due to its track record in business law studies across various Asian countries and its contributions through publications related to economic integration. Therefore, NUS is considered a credible partner to deliver FGDs on business readiness to face ASEAN economic integration in Medan and its surrounding areas.
Medan was chosen because, as one of the major cities in Indonesia, it significantly contributes to economic growth across sectors such as goods, services, and investment. Unfortunately, not all stakeholders, particularly business actors, have sufficient knowledge regarding global economic developments and the necessary responses to integration dynamics.
The purpose of this webinar is to educate business actors in Medan and surrounding areas on key elements that need to be addressed and strategies to be implemented in facing ASEAN economic integration. The method involves FGDs conducted both face-to-face and via Zoom Meeting, followed by interactive discussions. With proper follow-up, it is expected that business actors will gain a deeper understanding and establish strategic steps, enabling this global momentum to become a major opportunity to strengthen the national economy.
