Graduates Profile
Diploma Program in Finance, Faculty of Economics and Business, the Universitas Sumatera Utara, which was established on November 2, 1984, has Accreditation A, valid until 2024, which is a study program that prepares intermediate financial experts who can prepare financial reports, understand basic banking activities, present tax reports and understands securities trading transactions under applicable laws and ethics.
Duration of Study
The USU Diploma Program in Finance includes a learning process equivalent to 110 credits (SKS) that can be completed in 3 years. Students are eligible for the Associate (A.Md.) degree after obtaining a minimum of 110 credits in accordance with the established curriculum requirements.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Students of the Diploma Program in Finance are expected :
- 1Capable of practising business communication in financial institutions, utilizing basic marketing and management knowledge in providing standard banking services in accordance with the Bank's SOPs and mastering applicable banking laws.
- 2Capable of using the latest banking technology systems/applications appropriately, presenting financial statements, financial ratios, and financial planning.
- 3Capable of presenting product cost information using activity-based costing, target costing, and life cycle costing techniques for pricing, inventory assessment, cost control and decision-making under superior supervision using computer facilities.
- 4Capable of planning, preparing and carrying out sales activities of banking products and services in general in accordance with the bank's SOP.
- 5Capable of applying the basis of buying and selling (forex) in accordance with the methods applied by BI, capable of recommending types of investment types in accordance with the feasibility evaluation of investment appropriately applicable in the IDX.
- 6Capable of supervising third-party fund (DPK) transactions, payment basis, and trade finance transaction process.
- 7Capable of using the latest banking technology systems/applications appropriately, presenting financial statements, financial ratios, and financial planning.
- 8Capable of providing the value of goods information using activity-based costing, target costing, and life cycle costing techniques for pricing, inventory assessment, cost control and decision-making under superior supervision using computer facilities.
- 9Capable of planning corporate taxation strategies in the form of recommendations for corporate taxation policies and preparing organizational fiscal reconciliation financial statements by identifying tax opportunities based on applicable tax regulations.
- 10Capable of calculating and accounting for Income Tax (PPh) and Value Added Tax & Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPN & PPn BM) and able to prepare tax payment letters (SSP) and Tax Notification Letters (SPT).
- 11Capable of presenting Banking Credit Analysis, Bank Fund Management, able to analyze Banking Risks according to Risk Profile in SEBI No.13/21 / DPNP / 2011, Mastering External and Internal Regulations in the banking world according to SEBI.

In the diploma Finance study program, the main focus is on activities related to decision-making regarding the management of finances and financial assets. The main objective of financial management is to ensure the company earns maximum profit through the efficient management of available financial resources. First, students understand the fundamentals of financial management. They learn key concepts such as investment appraisal, financial planning, financial risk management, and investment decision-making. This equips them with an in-depth understanding of how financial decisions can affect a company's performance and profitability. Furthermore, students understand financial asset management, including portfolio management, investment risk management, and asset allocation strategies. They understand how to analyze investment performance, select appropriate investment instruments, and optimize investment returns by considering acceptable levels of risk. Then, students understand corporate liquidity and cash flow management. This includes handling liquidity needs, receivables and payables management, and operational and investment cash flow management. They learn effective liquidity management strategies to ensure the smooth operation of the company.

In the Finance diploma study program, banking is one of the main areas of focus. This field of study examines the world of finance holistically, including financial institutions such as banks, insurance, savings and loan institutions, and capital markets along with the transactions that occur in them. First, students understand the fundamentals of the banking industry. They study the history, evolution, and role of financial institutions in the economy. This includes an understanding of the structure and function of banks, the role of insurance in risk mitigation, and the role of savings and loan institutions in promoting financial inclusion. Furthermore, students understand the basic principles of risk management in financial institutions. They understand how to manage credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk inherent in banking and insurance activities. Emphasis is placed on risk mitigation strategies and the role of compliance with banking regulations. In addition, students learn about existing banking products and services. This includes an understanding of banking products such as savings, credit, investments, and e-services. They also understand the structure of the capital market, types of investment instruments, as well as how to manage an investment portfolio. It is important to emphasize knowledge of regulations and ethics in the banking industry. Students must understand the financial regulations that govern the behavior and operations of financial institutions. In addition, ethics in business and adherence to professional codes of conduct are emphasized.
