MEDAN–Public Relations USU: Universitas Sumatera Utara held the first day of the 2025 Independent Selection for Admission to State Universities Consortium of State Universities in Western Indonesia (SMM PTN Barat) on Monday (June 17, 2025) at seven exam locations on its campus. USU is one of 28 state universities participating in the selection process, with 17,909 seats available across all participating institutions.

The SMM PTN Barat for USU will take place from June 17 to 18, 2025, with 1,712 applicants participating across the seven testing locations on campus. The overall implementation of the Western PTN SMM will run until June 24, 2025.

The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si, stated this in an official release sent by the Head of the USU Public Relations, Protocol, and Promotion Office, Amalia Meutia, M.Psi, Psychologist, to the media.

“USU is one of 28 state universities conducting the West SMM PTN  exam, organized by the BKS PTN Barat Consortium. The exam locations at USU are spread across 7 sites, taking place in three sessions. We all hope that this SMM PTN Barat exam will help those who failed in the SNBP and SNBT exams last year to succeed,” explained Prof. Muryanto.

The subjects tested include scholastic aptitude tests, English language literacy tests, Indonesian language literacy tests, and mathematical reasoning tests. The rector hopes the exam will proceed smoothly and successfully, producing outstanding new students for USU.

Previously, the Chair of the 2025 West SMM PTN, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim, S.Fil., M.Si, informed through the smmptnbarat.id website that this year there are 993 programs available and a quota of 17,909 prospective students to be admitted from 28 PTNs, including USU. The evaluation of the UTBK results for the SMM PTN-BARAT 2025 is conducted using the CEEB (College Entrance Examination Board) method by the committee. Meanwhile, the combination of UTBK and portfolio scores will be used for programs requiring skills (portfolio). The results of the SMM PTN Barat will be announced on June 30, 2025, on the main website https://pengumuman.smmptnbarat.id and the mirror website https://smmptn.usu.ac.id.

In addition to the West SMM PTN, USU will also admit new students for the 2025/2026 academic year through the second phase of the Independent Student Selection (SMM) process, which will open online registration from June 21 to July 10, 2025, be conducted from July 13 to 15, 2025, and announce the results on July 22, 2025.
