HUMAS USUUniversitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through USU Peduli, once again distributed assistance to residents affected by flooding in the City of Medan. On Friday (5/12/2025), basic food aid packages were directly delivered to the community in Kelurahan Terjun, Neighborhoods XV and XVI. The activity was led by USU Vice Rector III Poppy Anjelisa Z. Hasibuan, accompanied by the Coordinator of the USU Task Force for Health, Nutrition, Psychology, and Vulnerable Groups Dewi Masyithah Darlan, Head of the Finance Bureau Marthin Luther Tarigan, and the USU Peduli Task Force Team.

The distribution of aid was carried out as part of the ongoing humanitarian response by USU Peduli, which from the outset has continuously assisted affected communities at various disaster points across North Sumatra. The basic food packages were intended to help meet the residents’ daily basic needs, as many are still experiencing the impacts of flooding, while also strengthening sustained support throughout the recovery period.

The direct presence of university leaders together with the USU Peduli Task Force in Kelurahan Terjun reflects USU’s concrete commitment to stand alongside the community during emergency situations. Vice Rector III Poppy Anjelisa Z. Hasibuan stated that the aid distribution in Kelurahan Terjun represents USU Peduli’s solidarity with affected residents, as well as the fulfillment of mandates entrusted by various parties who have placed their humanitarian contributions through USU.

“USU Peduli is present to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches residents who truly need it. Today, together with the USU Peduli Task Force, we are distributing basic food aid in Kelurahan Terjun, Neighborhoods XV and XVI, as part of USU’s commitment to humanitarian work. Every trust entrusted to USU will be delivered to the best of our ability, accurately targeted, and sustainably,” said Prof. Poppy.

She also expressed appreciation to all parties who have supported the swift actions of USU Peduli, including UNNES, which has placed full trust in USU to distribute assistance. According to her, cross-university collaboration and engagement with stakeholders are essential strengths in expanding the reach of aid to disaster-affected communities across Sumatra.

Through the USU Peduli Task Force, USU will continue to expand the reach of assistance to other affected areas, while strengthening coordination with local governments and humanitarian partners. With the spirit of mutual cooperation, USU remains committed to being present and accompanying communities until the recovery process progresses and residents’ conditions are restored.
