USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully won several prestigious awards at the 2025 North Sumatra Provincial Regional Innovation Competition.

These achievements were attained after USU teams underwent a selection process and field validation conducted as part of the Innovation Product Commercialization Grant Program/Regional Innovation Competition, in which several USU participants advanced to the final stage and presented their innovative products.
The Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, officially opened the North Sumatera Innovation Day (NSID) 2025, which took place on November 19–20 at the courtyard of the North Sumatra Governor’s Office.
Carrying the theme “Smart Province – Innovative People,” the event showcased various innovations from students, university students, regional government units, higher education institutions, as well as the business sector, startups, MSMEs, and technology communities, with a total of 50 tenants.
In his remarks, the Governor emphasized that the innovations exhibited must deliver tangible benefits to the community and should not stop at ceremonial activities. He also encouraged that these works be connected with business actors and the banking sector so that they can continue to grow and develop further.
The Head of the North Sumatra Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Bappelitbang), Dr. Dikky Anugerah, stated that NSID 2025 serves as a momentum to strengthen the innovation ecosystem through collaboration among four key elements: government, academia, business, and the community. In addition to the exhibition, the event also featured Innovation Sharing sessions and talk shows with several universities, the North Sumatra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Sumut), and regional innovation award recipients.
The awards received by USU demonstrate the strength of collaboration among faculties, research teams, and innovation management units at USU in promoting applied research that is ready to be adopted by the community or prepared for commercialization.
In addition to providing academic recognition, these results also open opportunities for further product development, strengthened industry partnerships, and access to commercialization programs as well as follow-up funding.
