“Likewise, maintaining and improving the performance of tri dharma tasks is no less important when achieving this highest position for a professor,” said the Rector.

 

Public Relations USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) again held a Permanent Professor Inauguration ceremony at the USU Student Center on Friday (24/01/2025).

On this occasion, six professors were officially inaugurated including Prof. Dr. Drs. Kerista Tarigan, M.Eng.Sc., from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ir. Charloq Rosa Nababan, M.P., from the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Reni Asmara Ariga, SKp., M.A.R.S., from Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt. from Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A. from Faculty of Law, and Prof. Dr. Romi Fadillah Rahmat, B.Comp.Sc., M.Sc. from Faculty of Ilkom-Ti.

USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., said that from 2024 to 2025, 52 permanent professors were inaugurated. This achievement will improve the quality of education within the university. In addition, the professors must maintain the quality of their fields.

“Likewise, maintaining and improving the performance of tri dharma tasks is no less important when achieving this highest position for a professor,” said the Rector.

The Rector added that professors must adapt to developments in this very significant era of globalization. Research that will be carried out in the future must also be in accordance with global developments and dynamics.

“Although the tri dharma tasks have been carried out, they must adjust to changes,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., Professor and USU Vice Rector I, said that professors play a very important role in advancing the university in terms of academics, contributions to research, and community service.

“With enough professors to contribute to the world of education and civilization,” he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Edy conducted research related to the Customary Land of the Malay Tribe in North Sumatra. The research found similar problems related to the lack of state attention in protecting the existence of their customary land.

“I have started my research since 22 years ago related to the loss of Malay people's lands in North Sumatra,” he said.

On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Charloq Rosa Nababan, M.P., researched to manage carbon from plant waste into biochar. This serves as a soil conditioner, fertilizing the lands of farmers and plantations.

“From plant wastes that are utilized for soil ecosystems and soil fertility,” she said.
