The Computer-Based Written Test for the National Selection (UTBK-SNBT) 2026 at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has entered its third day. Hundreds of participants continue to fill various test locations across faculties within the university each day. The exam is being held from April 21 to April 30, 2026.
Feelings of fear, anxiety, and nervousness blend into one during this tense moment—an event long awaited by participants preparing to move on to the next stage of their education. Every second and minute during the test may determine the direction of their future.
Participants have carefully prepared for their chosen majors and universities by studying materials likely to appear in the exam. Some have even attended paid tutoring sessions and practice tests (tryouts) to better strengthen their preparation.
One UTBK participant, Pasya Medika from Sibiru-biru District, shared that he chose Computer Science at USU as his first-choice major. He explained that his decision was inspired by David Brendi, a well-known YouTuber. “I often watch GadgetIn, so it made me interested in learning about computers,” he said.
David Brendi, widely recognized through his YouTube channel “GadgetIn,” has approximately 13.9 million subscribers and around 3.1 million followers on Instagram. His content primarily focuses on gadgets and technology, often explaining the latest specifications and developments in the digital world.
Pasya further expressed that if he successfully passes the UTBK, he hopes not only to understand specifications but also to gain deeper knowledge in coding and programming. Coming from a vocational high school (SMK) with a computer-related major, he is eager to continue and deepen his studies in the field.
“Back in high school, I majored in computer studies as well. So I want to continue and deepen my knowledge in computer science,” he explained during the interview.
In addition, Pasya noted that he chose the Computer Science program at USU because of its strong accreditation and promising career prospects.
“I chose Computer Science at USU because it was initially recommended by my teacher, who said it’s a good program. After looking into it myself, I agreed. I want to learn more deeply there, especially things I didn’t get to study in vocational school,” he concluded.
