USU Ulos Choir Student Activity Unit Holds Inaugural Concert Titled Gema Swara Nusantara

USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through the Ulos Choir Student Activity Unit (UKM), successfully held its inaugural concert titled Gema Swara Nusantara on Saturday (10/25/2025) at the USU Auditorium. This event marked a historic moment for the Ulos Choir UKM, as it was the first time the group presented a series of regional songs reflecting the cultural and religious diversity of Indonesia.
The concert was attended by representatives of the USU Directorate of Student Affairs through the Center for Student Achievement (Puspresma), Dr. Irsan Mulyadi, S.Sos., M.I.Kom.; the Ulos Choir coach, Ondi Yohan Tambun, S.S., M.Si.; as well as a representative of the members’ parents, Mr. Sabam Sibarani, S.Sos., M.M. Members of the academic community, alumni, and the general public were also present and enthusiastically witnessed the inaugural performance.
The Chairperson of the Ulos Choir UKM, Vebby Kristin Sipayung, in her remarks expressed gratitude for the successful implementation of the inaugural concert that carried themes of nationalism and culture. She stated that Gema Swara Nusantara represents students’ appreciation of Indonesia’s cultural richness as well as the embodiment of the spirit of unity in diversity.
The concert featured 17 regional songs from various parts of the archipelago, ranging from Sumatra to eastern Indonesia. Preparations carried out over a period of seven months were conducted intensively, with the aim of presenting the best harmony while also strengthening solidarity among students from different faculties.
The Vice Head of the USU Center for Student Achievement, Dr. Irsan Mulyadi, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., in his remarks expressed appreciation for the creativity and dedication of the students involved in the Ulos Choir UKM. He emphasized that Puspresma will continue to support positive activities that contribute to character building and the enhancement of students’ soft skills.
The Ulos Choir coach, Ondi Yohan Tambun, S.S., M.Si., added that this activity not only trains vocal abilities but also serves as a platform for character development, discipline, and student leadership. “The enthusiasm shown by the members serves as proof that art can function as a comprehensive learning medium,” he said.
Meanwhile, the representative of the members’ parents, Mr. Sabam Sibarani, S.Sos., M.M., expressed his pride and hope that similar activities can continue to be carried out and further developed at national and international levels.
Through the Gema Swara Nusantara concert, the Ulos Choir UKM reaffirmed its commitment to making art a medium for national unity as well as a means of preserving Indonesian culture. This activity is expected to strengthen the role of USU students in developing artistic and cultural potential rooted in the values of diversity and fraternity.
