USU Trains Students to Strengthen Intellectual Capacity, Character, and Leadership

Rektor USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., menyampaikan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki peran penting sebagai calon pemimpin masa depan yang harus dipersiapkan tidak hanya secara intelektual, tetapi juga dari segi karakter dan kepemimpinan.
Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the 2026 Student Leadership Training under the theme “Level Up Your Leadership” on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) at the 2nd Floor Auditorium of the Student Center. The event was attended by students involved in various student organizations, including the Student Executive Board (BEM), departmental student associations, and student activity units across USU.
In his remarks, USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized that students play a crucial role as future leaders who must be prepared not only intellectually but also in terms of character and leadership. “Students are agents of change and future leaders who must possess strong character, integrity, and global competitiveness,” he stated.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration among student organizations in fostering a harmonious and productive campus environment. “We are one big USU family that must support and collaborate with one another for shared progress,” he added.
On the same occasion, Dr. Syahganda Nainggolan, M.T., a politician and activist, stressed that students need to have a strong understanding of global issues, including geopolitics, in order to compete in the future. “Students must understand geopolitical issues and actively engage in global developments, as our position is very strategic,” he said.
He also noted that training programs like this play an important role in shaping students’ character and preparing them to face increasingly complex challenges. “Activities like this are essential in building students’ character so they are ready to face complex challenges,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Director of Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Purwoko, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU, stated that the university continues to support the development of students’ soft skills, particularly in leadership. “Students today are the leaders of tomorrow, so leadership skills must be developed from now on,” he remarked.
The Director of Public Relations, Promotion, and Protocol, Prof. Dr. dr. Elmeida Effendy, M.Ked(KJ)., Sp.KJ(K), expressed hope that through this activity, USU students will enhance their leadership capacity and actively contribute to addressing global challenges in the future.
