HUMAS USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) and Rumah Zakat, held a handover ceremony for the North Sumatra Disaster Recovery and Educational Support Program. The event took place at the TTU Meeting Room on the 3rd Floor of the USU Rectorate Building on Monday (08/06/2026).

The program reflects USU’s commitment to supporting the continuity of students’ education, particularly those in need of financial assistance.

In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., stated that the scholarship assistance is not merely financial support but also a sign of trust in the student recipients.

“This assistance is both a responsibility and a form of trust. Let it serve as motivation to continue learning, achieving, and developing your potential,” she said.

She also emphasized the crucial role of education in safeguarding students’ futures, especially during challenging circumstances.

“I firmly believe that education is one of the most important things. When education can continue, hope for the future can also be preserved,” she added.

On the same occasion, Muhammad Zeinizen, S.Sos., M.S.P., Manager of Student Development at USU’s Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni Services, explained that USU plays a key role in ensuring that the assistance reaches students who genuinely need it.

“Student data is verified in stages and undergoes a rechecking process to ensure that the assistance is distributed accurately and to the right recipients,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Isa, Head of Rumah Zakat North Sumatra, stated that the scholarship program represents a commitment to supporting students affected by disasters.

“We hope this assistance will help students continue their education more effectively and with greater confidence,” he said.

He further noted that the scholarship initiative has already benefited many students and will continue to be expanded in the future.

“We have provided hundreds of scholarship programs to students at various universities and hope that, moving forward, the assistance can be distributed more evenly across all regions of North Sumatra,” he added.
