HUMAS USU – The Universitas Sumatera Utara Taekwondo contingent brought home championship titles from The 9th Heroes Taekwondo International Champion 2026, held at the Eastern National Sports Training Center in Pattaya, Chonburi, Thailand. The competition was attended by approximately 3,900 participants from 35 countries and took place from July 30 to August 4, 2026.

At the event, Feldicio Haganta Ginting, a 2025 student of the Law Study Program at the Faculty of Law, competed in two categories, namely Senior Men's Kyorugi O-87 kg and Speed Punch. He successfully won the titles after competing against athletes from various countries.

His participation in the international competition was preceded by approximately one month of preparation. Together with the team, he trained regularly every day to improve his skills and physical condition ahead of the competition. Even one day before the match, he continued training as part of his final preparations.

“For the championship in Thailand, my team and I continued training even until H-1 to achieve my target of winning first place,” he said optimistically.

The journey to the competition arena was also accompanied by various challenges. As the competition approached, his training duration increased from approximately two hours to three hours per day. The final two weeks before the competition became an increasingly intensive training period.

In addition to maintaining his physical condition, he also had to ensure that his weight remained within the limit of the registered competition class. This made managing his training routine and physical condition an important part of his preparations.

Feldicio explained that an athlete's achievements cannot be attained instantly. Discipline, consistency, hard work, and the determination not to give up have remained principles that he has upheld throughout the training and competition process.

“The medal I won is the result of regular training, prayers, and support from my coach, family, and the people around me. Achievement is the result of a process, not luck,” he said.

The various competitions he has participated in have also provided him with valuable experiences. Victories and medals are certainly sources of pride, but an athlete's journey also involves injuries, fatigue, pressure during competitions, and results that sometimes fall short of expectations.

However, these challenges did not discourage him. Instead, they became opportunities for evaluation and continuous improvement. He believes that every failure and success plays a role in developing a stronger athlete's mindset and motivating him to achieve greater accomplishments.

“All of these experiences have become valuable lessons for me to keep developing, become more united, and be increasingly motivated to achieve better results,” he said.

Feldicio also encouraged USU students involved in various sports to continue developing their abilities. In his view, doubts or criticism from others should not become reasons to give up. Instead, they can serve as motivation to prove one's abilities through achievements.
