MEDAN, HUMAS USU – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated in supporting the successful commemoration of the 2026 National Children's Day, which was organized in collaboration with Lions Club and the Medan City Youth and Sports Office (DISPORA) at Merdeka Square, on Sunday (26/07/2026).

During the event, USU demonstrated its active role by providing health and psychology education booths from the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Psychology, while also signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lions Club.

The Director of the USU Directorate of Cooperation and Internationalization, Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, DAP&E., MPH., Sp.Park., explained that USU fully supports all public health initiatives, particularly those concerning children, who are the future of the nation. She also noted that USU contributes to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, and 3.

"We at USU fully support all activities related to public health, especially those concerning children, who are the future of the nation. USU also contributes to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, and 3," she explained.

She also expressed her hope that through this year's National Children's Day commemoration, children, as the nation's future generation, will remain healthy so that they can actively pursue their education.

Jones Tjiunardi, District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 307-A2 Indonesia, explained that Lions is the world's largest and oldest humanitarian organization. The organization has a network of members who voluntarily serve communities without distinction of ethnicity, religion, race, or background.

"Lions is the world's largest and oldest humanitarian organization. It is a nonprofit, non-religious, and non-political organization. Established in 1917, it is now present in more than 200 countries and territories," he explained.

He also emphasized that Lions' primary areas of focus include eye health, disaster relief, diabetes care, childhood cancer, environmental conservation, and hunger prevention.

In line with this, the Head of the Medan City Youth and Sports Office (Kadispora), H. Tengku Chairuniza, S.Sos., M.AP., stated that the Medan City Government remains committed to providing child-friendly facilities and public spaces, including parks and sports fields, to support healthy lifestyles for children.

"We provide comfortable and safe spaces for our children. The Medan City Government has gradually been providing facilities for children in parks and sports fields so that they can play freely while still being under the supervision of their parents," he explained.

He also expressed his hope that parents would continue to provide care and attention to their children. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of maximizing child protection efforts to better respond to and address the various challenges faced by children today.
