USU PR – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has officially sent off 16 student delegates who will represent the university at the Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (Kontes Robot Terbang Indonesia/KRTI) 2025, organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Fahmi, S.T., M.Sc., IPU, along with academic supervisors Tigor Hamonangan Nasution, S.T., M.T., and Seniman, S.Kom., M.Kom., were present to accompany the students.
They provided full support for the students’ efforts to perfect aerodynamic designs and artificial intelligence (AI)–based drone automation systems that will be showcased at the competition.
“USU students will present AI-based drone automation at KRTI 2025. Hopefully, the results will be satisfactory,” he said on Friday (10/17/2025).
The Rector of USU, Prof. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., represented by Vice Rector I of USU, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., expressed his pride and appreciation for the hard work of the students who will compete in two competition divisions, namely Racing Plane and Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL).
The Rector emphasized that USU’s participation in KRTI is not merely aimed at winning championships, but also serves as a tangible form of student contribution to the development of national aerospace and robotics technology.
KRTI 2025 itself will be held at Sutan Sjahrir Air Force Base, Padang, with Universitas Andalas serving as the host.
This competition is a prestigious event in the field of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology that challenges students to design, build, and operate innovative flying vehicles.
Prof. Edy Ikhsan also added that student participation in this event aligns with the spirit of Kampus Berdampak and the Asta Cita of Higher Education, which are oriented toward shaping a superior, well-rounded generation with global competitiveness.
With a spirit of innovation and collaboration, it is hoped that the USU delegation will bring pride to their alma mater, North Sumatra, and Indonesia at KRTI 2025.
