HUMAS USU - The University of Sumatera Utara (USU) is increasingly asserting its position as a globally reputable higher education institution. To date, a total of 28 study programs at USU have successfully received international accreditation from world-renowned accreditation bodies.

The USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., explained that this achievement is proof of international recognition for the quality of higher education provided by USU. According to him, this success not only shows that USU is able to meet national standards but also proves that the academic quality offered is on par with universities worldwide.

“A total of 28 study programs have obtained international accreditation from reputable institutions. This achievement is an important milestone, as it shows that the transformation we are making is moving in the right direction. In addition to being recognized nationally, USU is now also recognized globally,” said Prof. Muryanto during the celebration of USU's 73rd Anniversary in Medan on Thursday (29/8).

He added that the international accreditation was achieved after USU conducted a comprehensive overhaul, ranging from strengthening infrastructure and improving governance to enhancing the quality of the Three Pillars of Higher Education. These efforts were also accompanied by an acceleration in improving the accreditation quality of study programs at the national level. In the last four years, a total of 81 study programs have achieved the "Excellent" rating. As of 2025, 74 study programs, or 42 percent, are in "Very Good" status, 18 study programs or 10 percent are in "Good" status, while three study programs or two percent are still in "Minimum" status because they are newly established.

The Rector affirmed that this long journey over 73 years is a moment of reflection for USU to continuously strengthen its academic quality. The vision of becoming a world-class higher education institution is realized through a series of transformations integrated into six priority programs. These programs include strengthening adaptive institutions and governance, structuring campus infrastructure, digitalizing services, transforming the Three Pillars, developing the enterprising campus concept, and expanding strategic cooperation with various partners.

In the field of learning, USU is also presenting digital innovations that have become a model example for education in Indonesia. Starting from the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, USU is launching a digital plug-and-play program involving 12 internationally accredited study programs. According to Prof. Muryanto, this step is an answer to the challenges of global education, while also opening up a broader space for collaboration with the industry.

“This digital learning innovation will be a role model in addressing future education needs. USU is committed to presenting a system that is inclusive, easily accessible, and able to facilitate all students,” he said.

To support the program, USU has built the Digital Learning Center Building, which provides various modern facilities, including disability-friendly learning services, a virtual laboratory, a digital library, and various technology-based learning resources. The existence of this facility confirms USU's commitment to providing education that is inclusive, adaptive, and internationally competitive.
