HUMAS USU — The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., served as a speaker at the Advanced Training or National Level III Cadre Training (LK3) organized by the Regional Coordination Board (Badko) of the Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI) of North Sumatra. The event took place at Grand Antares Hotel Medan on Tuesday (April 14, 2026).

The week-long program was attended by 27 participants from various HMI regional boards and branches across Indonesia. In this session, the USU Rector provided insights on geopolitical issues, including the challenges and opportunities they present for Indonesian students.

The LK3 Advanced Training is the highest level of cadre formation within HMI, aimed at shaping participants’ character, mindset, and analytical skills in addressing national issues.

Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin emphasized that LK3 is a crucial stage in developing cadres’ ways of thinking and acting, grounded in theory, data, and analysis.

“Every action must have a strong foundation and be carefully planned for the future—whether in organizational roles, society, or contributions to the nation and the world,” he stated.

He also highlighted the importance of understanding global geopolitical developments in an increasingly interconnected world. According to him, global interconnectivity allows events from different parts of the world to be accessed in real time and directly impact daily life.

“Therefore, HMI cadres are expected to think globally while acting locally,” he concluded.

The Chairman of Badko HMI North Sumatra, Muhammad Yusril Mahendra, S.H., M.H., stated that LK3 is the highest level of cadre training following LK1 and LK2.

He described the program as a significant and meaningful forum to shape cadres with strong intellectual capacity, solid ideological foundations, and strategic thinking skills in carrying out their roles within the organization and in society.

In addition to featuring the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara as a speaker on geopolitical issues, the event also invited various national figures, including members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and representatives from other state institutions.

Through this activity, HMI cadres are expected to produce solution-oriented ideas and contribute to addressing both global and national challenges.
