“Currently, FK USU has assisted three institutions. The Helvetia Health Institute and Universitas Imelda Faculty of Medicine have been operational since last year. The Ministerial Decision for UNIMA was issued today,” he explained.

PUBLIC RELATIONS USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted a meeting with the State University of Manado (UNIMA) as part of a collaboration to establish a Faculty of Medicine at UNIMA. The event occurred in the USU Academic Senate Room on Thursday (July 3, 2025).

Several parties attended the meeting, including the Rector and Vice-Rectors of USU, the Director General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, the Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at USU, the Rector and Vice-Rectors of UNIMA, and the Chair of the Medical Faculty Establishment Committee at UNIMA.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), stated that the FK USU has been assisting three institutions in establishing medical faculties. Two of these are the Faculty of Medicine at the Helvetia Health Institute and Imelda University. Meanwhile, the assistance for UNIMA has just begun, following the issuance of the Ministerial Decision on the same day.

“Currently, FK USU has assisted three institutions. The Helvetia Health Institute and Universitas Imelda Faculty of Medicine have been operational since last year. The Ministerial Decision for UNIMA was issued today,” he explained.

The Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine explained that the mentoring process covers various aspects, including proposal development, human resource provision, and the fulfillment of educational facilities. Additionally, the mentoring includes the process of developing a curriculum tailored to each university.

“The support starts from assisting in proposal development, providing human resources, including educational facilities, and later assisting in curriculum development,” he said.

The First Vice Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Delyuzar M.Ked(PA), Sp.PA(K), explained that in establishing this medical faculty, the goal of increasing the number of doctors must be balanced with attention to the quality of education provided. Therefore, a crucial role in the mentoring process is ensuring that the faculty to be established can meet the established standards.

“We hope that the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine, if its stated goal is to produce more doctors, must still prioritize quality. Therefore, one of the mentoring aspects is to prepare a high-quality Faculty of Medicine in accordance with the standards,” he explained.

Meanwhile, UNIMA’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mister Gidion Maru, M.Hum., stated that the primary objective of this visit was to foster relationships while conducting initial consultations regarding plans for collaboration in establishing a Faculty of Medicine at UNIMA. This visit is expected to provide initial guidance, hoping to receive support from those with prior experience.

“In the development of education, especially in this case, we came to establish relationships and consult on future cooperation plans to establish a Faculty of Medicine. We hope to receive initial guidance or direction on how we can work together, especially us, to be guided through establishing the Faculty of Medicine itself,” he said.

Furthermore, he stated that this process is the first step in fulfilling the requirements for establishing a Faculty of Medicine, including having a credible partner such as USU. He emphasized that this visit is an initial commitment followed by more intensive coordination in the future, and he hopes that this collaboration will eventually expand to other Tridharma Higher Education programs.

“We are grateful that the Rector and his team, who were present, made us feel very welcome. This means future cooperation will have high potential, and our hopes are not limited to other Tridharma programs. These are the initial requirements for establishing the Faculty of Medicine, one of which is having a reliable partner like USU,” he added.
