Themed "Strengthening Public Relations and Protocol Management through Competence and Competition," the event took place in the 4th Floor Video Conference Room, USU's Rector's Office, on Monday, July 28, 2025. USU Secretary, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R., in his remarks, assessed that public relations is not merely a supporting function, but rather a central strategy for institutions, including higher education institutions. He stated that professional, transparent, and adaptive public communications management significantly impacts a university's reputation. "Public relations is no longer merely a supporting function, but rather the heart of an institution's strategic community, including ours, as a higher education institution," he said. Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R., expressed his appreciation for USU's participation in the 2025 Diktisaintek Public Relations Award, as it demonstrates USU's commitment to continuous learning, improvement, and building a high-quality and sustainable public relations system. He stated that the technical guidance was the right step to strengthen understanding, align strategies, and build synergies to improve public relations and protocol performance. "This technical guidance is a very important first step," he said. In addition to exchanging technical knowledge, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R., hopes this activity will provide a space for collective reflection on USU's strategy in narrating its achievements to the public, building public trust, and strengthening USU's position as a world-class, open, inclusive, and innovative university. "This activity is not only a forum for transferring technical knowledge, but also a space for collective reflection," he hoped. The Head of the Public Relations, Protocol, and Promotion Office at USU, Amalia Meutia, M.Psi., Psychologist, stated that this activity aims to provide an understanding aligned with the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology changes regarding public relations and protocol. She assessed that the presence of Doddy Zulkifli Indra Atmaja, S.I.Kom, M.Si., Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Division at the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology, and Arifin Habibillah, Head of the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology Protocol Team, as resource persons for this technical guidance is USU's effort to solidify preparations for the 2025 Diktisaintek Public Relations Award and achieve maximum results. "Today, we also asked for guidance from the resource persons on preparing the material to achieve maximum results," she said. Amalia Meutia, M.Psi., Psychologist, hopes that USU's numerous achievements will not only be symbolic but also actualized and provide tangible benefits, both for the academic community and the wider community, so that USU's presence will have a greater impact. PUBLIC RELATIONS USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the National Defense University of Malaysia (UPNM), held a discussion forum entitled "Strategy and Diplomacy; Building Indonesia-Malaysia Synergy." In addition to holding a seminar, the two also initiated a collaborative research project. The event took place at the USU Digital Learning Center Building on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
 
USU Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. Drs. Opim Salim Sitompul, M.Sc., stated that this forum was not merely an academic event but also a strategic platform to align perspectives and strengthen a collective vision for maintaining a stable and secure region. The collaboration between UCHPOLM and UPNM fosters awareness that regional development must be multidimensional.
 
"Today's forum serves as a meeting point between academic perspectives and strategic policymaking," said Prof. Opim in his remarks.
 
Dr. Drs. Zulfendri, M.Kes., Head of the USU Center of Health Politics and Management (UCHPOLM), stated that the topic of this discussion forum is highly relevant to the political dynamics and global health challenges we are currently facing. There will be collaborative research involving USU and UPNM.
 
"There will be lecturer exchanges. Long-term research between USU and UPN. Future research is also planned," said Dr. Zulfendri in an interview.
 
Furthermore, Dr. Norhalizna Fairuz B.Soc.Sc., M.Soc.,Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Strategy and Defense Studies Department at the National Defense University, stated that this research will focus on resources in the Batubara area. Further discussions are currently underway regarding the research and future studies.
 
"This research is more traditional and focused on the communities in Batubara. Further collaborations will be discussed," she said.
 
The forum was also attended by the Regent of Batubara, H. Baharuddin Siagian, S.H., M.Si., who is part of the Indonesia-Malaysia collaboration. Batubara, a regency rich in natural and human resources, is a promising sector. Furthermore, Batubara borders the Strait of Malacca, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
 
"Batubara has a lot of potential, but this has been considered in the vision and mission for the next five years. This collaboration will also significantly impact the Batubara region," said Baharuddin.

PUBLIC RELATIONS USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Regional Office in Jakarta, held a postgraduate scholarship program socialization event, namely the DAAD E-Visit on Master's and Doctoral Programs in Germany and DAAD Scholarships. The event took place online on Thursday (July 24, 2025). This socialization aimed to explain the opportunities for further study in Germany and the DAAD's scholarship programs to the USU academic community.
 
The event opened with remarks from USU Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., who expressed his appreciation for this collaboration and hoped that this socialization would inspire USU academics to continue their studies in Germany and take advantage of the various facilities offered by the DAAD.
 
"I hope this meeting will inspire knowledge seekers to go to Germany and take advantage of all the facilities offered by the DAAD. This is a luxurious opportunity that covers tuition fees, living expenses, language training, health insurance, and access to a global academic network," he said.
 
The Vice Rector I also shared his experiences studying abroad, encouraging students and young lecturers to dream bigger and develop strategies for seizing study abroad opportunities.

Muji Rahayu, Deputy Director of the DAAD Regional Office Jakarta, appreciated the opportunity. She noted that USU plays a vital role in developing higher education and international cooperation in the Sumatra region. She also revealed that it has been long since USU received a long-term DAAD scholarship. Meanwhile, the last USU representative to receive funding for the short-term, non-degree program was from the Faculty of Forestry. She hopes more new USU alumni will become DAAD scholarship recipients through this initiative.
 
"As one of the largest and oldest universities on the island of Sumatra, USU certainly plays a crucial role in developing higher education and international cooperation in the Sumatra region. It's been a while since USU received a long-term DAAD scholarship. We sincerely hope this session will inspire more academics to apply," he said.
 
The DAAD itself has long been recognized as a provider of prestigious scholarships from the German government and is now offering various study opportunities at the master's and doctoral levels. In this session, participants were allowed to ask questions directly and receive comprehensive information about the application process and selection criteria.
