USU Inaugurates Student Executive Board (BEM) for the 2026–2027 Term

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially inaugurated the management board of the Student Executive Board (Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa/BEM USU) for the 2026–2027 term during a ceremony held at the USU Student Center on Monday, June 8, 2026.
The inauguration marked the beginning of a new chapter for BEM USU under the leadership of Angga Al Maaris Harahap as President of BEM USU and Siti Maryani Saragi as Vice President through the Tumbuh Bersama (Growing Together) Cabinet.
In her remarks, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., emphasized that the inauguration was not merely a ceremonial event but the beginning of a significant responsibility for students to act as leaders, connectors, and representatives of the student body. She also highlighted the importance of student organizations as platforms for generating ideas, innovation, and collaboration in addressing contemporary challenges.

Meanwhile, the outgoing President of BEM USU for the 2024–2025 term, Muzammil Ihsan, encouraged the new administration to uphold its ideals and view leadership positions as opportunities to create broader benefits for both students and the wider community. Similarly, representatives of the Student Representative Council (DPM USU) expressed their hope that the new leadership would prioritize collective interests above personal interests.

The President of BEM USU for the 2026–2027 term, Angga Al Maaris Harahap, and Vice President Siti Maryani Saragi reaffirmed their commitment to carrying out their responsibilities with dedication and building an organization that is more closely connected to students.
In an interview, Angga expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by USU students. He emphasized his commitment to accommodating student aspirations and strengthening collaboration among faculties. Meanwhile, Siti noted that the various experiences and challenges encountered throughout the election process had prepared her to fulfill her responsibilities to the best of her ability.
“Through the Tumbuh Bersama Cabinet, we hope to embrace all students, accommodate their aspirations, and implement programs that provide tangible benefits for the academic community,” she stated.
Through the Tumbuh Bersama Cabinet, the 2026–2027 BEM USU administration is committed to building a student organization that is more accessible to students and serves as a meaningful platform for advocacy, participation, and positive contributions to the entire academic community.
