“We hope that they will help safeguard the nation’s health, especially in the field of maternal and child health,” stated Prof. Fidel.

USU PR – The Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) inaugurated 19 Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists (SpOG) and admitted 22 new participants to the Medical Specialist Education Program (Program Pendidikan Dokter Spesialis/PPDS). The event was warmly held at Hotel Adimulia on Saturday (11/01/2025).

The Secretary of USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG(K)., Subsp. F.E.R., conveyed his congratulations to the participants who have graduated as specialists as well as those who are beginning their specialist education. It is hoped that they will strengthen contributions to maternal and child health services across the country.

“We hope that they will help safeguard the nation’s health, especially in the field of maternal and child health,” stated Prof. Fidel.

Furthermore, the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Program, Dr. dr. Edy Ardiansyah, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG., Subsp. Urogi RE., explained that as part of the tridharma of higher education, members of the academic community are encouraged to dedicate their knowledge and expertise through health services at hospitals and university partner clinics, as a tangible form of contribution to society.

“There are several hospitals that have established partnerships with the university as outlined in formal cooperation agreements,” explained Dr. Edy.

On the same occasion, Dr. dr. Johny Marpaung, M.Ked(OG)., Sp.OG(K)., Subsp. K.Fm., as Chair of the Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (POGI) of North Sumatra, delivered his message that to become professional medical personnel, one must uphold ethics and moral values. The knowledge possessed should be used to help others and contribute to the greater good of society.

“The main objective is to apply our knowledge and the skills we have gained during this education so that they can bring benefits to society,” emphasized Dr. Johny.
