“Psychology must become a social navigator that is present in real life spaces and encourages evidence-based and empathetic policies,” said the Rector of USU.
Public Relations USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is hosting the 31st Colloquium of the Indonesian Association of Higher Education Institutions in Psychology (AP2TPI), which will take place from June 23–25, 2025. The colloquium series began with a national workshop themed “Integrating Science and the Psychology Profession for National Well-being in the Society 5.0 Era,” held at the USU Psychology Faculty. The event was attended by 266 participants from 97 higher education institutions across Indonesia.
The workshop featured three applied training sessions: Photovoice for research and intervention, Mental Status Examination, and Community Intervention and Assessment. In his opening remarks at the Gala Dinner, USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized that the colloquium’s theme was not merely an academic reflection but also a call to action in the Society 5.0 era.
“Psychology must serve as a social navigator present in real-life spaces and drive evidence-based and empathetic policies,” he stated.
The chairperson of the organizing committee, Prof. Raras Sutatminingsih, Ph.D., Psychologist, noted that this event serves as a platform for enhancing the capabilities of psychologists and psychology researchers in addressing the increasingly complex and data-driven challenges of the modern era.
“This workshop is designed to address the challenges of contemporary psychology with an applied and science-based approach,” she explained.
The AP2TPI Colloquium is not merely an annual forum but a strategic platform for formulating the direction of national psychology education, particularly in aligning curricula with the 2023 Psychology Education and Services Act (PLP). The forum discusses the transformation of the professional ranks of general psychologists and the strengthening of the academic ecosystem across Indonesia.
Dr. Rahmi Lubis, M.Psi., Psychologist, as the workshop coordinator, stated that the active participation of university officials reflects a shared commitment to strengthening national psychology education standards. She also highlighted the diversity of participants, including practicing psychologists, lecturers, and researchers, which enriches discussions and practices within the workshop.
“The active participation of participants from various backgrounds shows that this colloquium is not just a routine event, but a space for strengthening the quality of national psychology education,” said Dr. Rahmi.
The highlight of the colloquium took place on Wednesday morning (June 25, 2025) with the agenda of the handover of the AP2TPI Chairmanship. Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., officially replaced Prof. Dr. Bagus Takwin, M.Hum., Psychologist, as the Chair of AP2TPI for the next term, marking a leadership transition expected to bring new innovations to the field of psychology education in Indonesia.
With the spirit of collaboration fostered through this colloquium, USU reaffirms its commitment as an adaptive academic center responsive to change and actively contributing to developing inclusive, professional, and community-oriented psychology education.
