USU Public Relations – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) once again demonstrated its strong commitment to supporting the development of young athletes and promoting national sports growth through the USU Games 2025 Open Archery Championship, officially opened on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the USU Mini Stadium.
This archery championship stands as one of the largest ever held outside Java, featuring more than 748 athletes from various educational levels — elementary, junior high, senior high schools, and universities.
The event serves not only as a platform for competition but also as an important moment to instill the values of concentration, discipline, and sportsmanship. The strong collaboration among various parties, including local government, sports organizations, and sponsors — highlights the collective effort to strengthen the archery ecosystem in North Sumatra.
Representing the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., the Director of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., delivered remarks and officially opened the championship. She emphasized that archery is not merely a physical sport, but also one that hones focus and mental strength.
“Every arrow released does not only aim at the target, but also symbolizes one’s pursuit of dreams and aspirations,” Rahma expressed, reminding the athletes not to fear failure, as it is a necessary step toward success.
Head of the Youth and Sports Agency of North Sumatra, M. Mahfullah Pratama Daulay, S.STP., M.A.P., also conveyed his appreciation, stating that such championships are an essential part of the long-term athlete development process toward the National Sports Week (PON) 2028.
According to Mahfullah, the outcomes of this championship will serve as valuable data for Perpani Sumut (the North Sumatra Archery Association) in preparing talented athletes for future competitions.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of Perpani Sumut, M. Said Tanjung, commended the success of the competition, calling it a historic milestone for archery outside Java.
He praised the dedication of USU students in organizing such a large-scale event, expressing his hope that this championship will produce young athletes who are not only accomplished but also humble.
The USU Games 2025 Open Archery Championship will run until October 5, 2025, showcasing intense yet sportsmanlike competition.
Beyond the spirit of rivalry, this event serves as a strategic platform for USU to strengthen its role in nurturing a young generation that is healthy, strong in character, and high-achieving in the field of sports.
