“I am very happy to be able to provide knowledge to inspire the attendees, especially in the field of science and technology,” said Prof. Robert in his speech.

HUMAS USU - The 7th International Conference on Natural Resources and Technology (ICONART) 2025 was again held by the Center of Excellence for Mangrove and the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). It was titled “Natural Resources and Technology for Achieving SDs through Collaboration Academic, Industry, and Community.” The event took place at the Grandhika Hotel on (28/08/2025).

Prof. Dr. Robert Sibarani, M.S., Head of USU's Research Institute, provided a tangible contribution toward achieving the SDGs, while also expanding the international collaboration network that is beneficial for the development of science and the improvement of natural resource management quality.

“I am very happy to be able to provide knowledge to inspire the attendees, especially in the field of science and technology,” said Prof. Robert in his speech.

In line with this, Dr. Iwan Risnasari, Center of Excellence for Mangrove, USU, indicated that cross-sector collaboration is very important for maintaining the sustainability of natural resources while utilizing technology wisely. He emphasized the importance of government regulation to strengthen the synergy that has been established, so that the innovation created can be used by the community. “Regulation from the government, so that the synergy is stronger, makes innovation easier to implement,” he continued.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D, Chairman of the Committee, said that this conference is not only an annual meeting but also an exchange of ideas between academics, industry, and the community regarding the development of science and technology. Especially in the field of environmental management and natural resource management.

“It is not just a conference but a platform for formulating and discussing the latest research technology. It invites collaboration with various fields, especially international ones,” he said when met.

Lastly, Dr. Yuki Minegishi, Speaker from the University of Tokyo, Japan, said that Indonesia, especially the North Sumatra region, must utilize natural resources well, by minimizing the impact caused to the environment. “Natural resources must be used as well as possible and can emulate what is done in my country,” she said.
