“Pancasila is not merely a historical document. It is the soul of the nation, a guide for living together, and a guiding star in realizing an Indonesia that is free, united, just, and prosperous,” the Rector quoted.
Public Relations USU—Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a solemn ceremony commemorating Pancasila's birthday at the Rector's Office courtyard on Monday (June 2, 2025). The ceremony was attended by university officials, faculty members, and educational staff.
The ceremony was led directly by USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., who read out the speech of the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) of the Republic of Indonesia. In the speech, the importance of making Pancasila a guiding principle for the nation, not merely a normative text, was emphasized. Pancasila was described as a strategic unifying force amid Indonesia’s diversity of ethnic groups, religions, races, and cultures.
“Pancasila is not merely a historical document. It is the soul of the nation, a guide for living together, and a guiding star in realizing an Indonesia that is free, united, just, and prosperous,” the Rector quoted.
The speech also highlighted the fundamental challenges to the nation's ideology in the era of globalization and digitalization, including the spread of extremism, radicalism, intolerance, and disinformation. Therefore, revitalizing Pancasila values is essential to continue in various sectors of life.
“In this increasingly complex era, Pancasila must be the primary guide, not only in the world of education but also in bureaucracy, the economy, and the digital realm. The nation’s progress must remain rooted in the values of divinity, humanity, unity, democracy, and social justice,” he added.
USU Secretary, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G, Subsp.F.E.R., stated that the ceremony is a tangible manifestation of USU’s commitment to upholding and instilling national values. This ceremony is routine and a means to reiterate important messages about Pancasila.
“The concrete steps taken by USU are to continue holding the ceremony and, of course, convey messages to ensure we remain loyal, obedient, and make Pancasila the guiding star of our lives,” said Prof. Fidel.
Furthermore, Prof. Fidel emphasized that USU consistently instills the spirit of Pancasila in every academic activity and campus life. The values of Pancasila are not merely taught theoretically but are also embedded in daily practices. Specifically, he believes that by understanding and practicing Pancasila, students will be able to use technology wisely and avoid misuse that could harm society or the nation.
“We always instill the spirit of Pancasila, both in daily life and in the teaching-learning process. By instilling the spirit of Pancasila, we are confident that our USU students will not become people who misuse technology in their lives, whether in national affairs or in social life,” he explained.
