Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed representatives from the North Sumatra Indonesian Student Arts Development Board (BPSMI) to discuss preparations for the 2026 Regional Student Arts Week (PEKSIMIDA) on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the meeting room of the USU Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni (Ditmawa).

Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D., a member of the North Sumatra BPSMI board, explained that the meeting was part of a collective effort to strengthen coordination among universities in preparing North Sumatra's best student delegates for the 2026 National Student Arts Week (PEKSIMINAS).

"This meeting is part of our joint effort to strengthen coordination among higher education institutions. We must prepare the best delegation from North Sumatra for PEKSIMINAS 2026," said Prof. Mauly Purba.

During the meeting, he emphasized USU's strategic role in supporting student arts development and fostering collaboration with universities across North Sumatra.

Meanwhile, Irwansyah Siregar, S.Pd., M.Pd., Expert Staff to the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni at Universitas Negeri Medan, explained that PEKSIMIDA would serve as the selection event to identify the most outstanding students who will represent North Sumatra at PEKSIMINAS, which will be hosted by Universitas Negeri Jember.

"PEKSIMIDA will be an important selection event to identify the best student talents who will represent North Sumatra at PEKSIMINAS hosted by Universitas Negeri Jember," he explained.

He added that the event would also strengthen friendship and collaboration among students from various higher education institutions through 15 competition categories to be contested.

Meanwhile, Dharma Ari Prianto, S.E., M.M., Special Staff for Student Affairs and Alumni at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, emphasized that the participation of all higher education institutions is essential to advancing student arts development while increasing North Sumatra's opportunities to achieve success at the national level.

Through this meeting, the North Sumatra BPSMI and universities across the province expressed their hope that PEKSIMIDA 2026 would be successfully organized and produce a strong delegation capable of bringing pride to North Sumatra at PEKSIMINAS 2026.
