USU PR - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted various competitions in order to enliven the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. This competition was held at the USU Student Center and Administrative Center Bureau, on Monday (14/08/2023).
In order to welcome the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, USU held various competitions such as terompah competition, sack race, tug of war and karaoke. Participants who registered from various work units and staff at USU. About 21 participants participated in the karaoke competition, later the best 5 were selected to compete in the final, on August 17.
The Head of the Office of Public Relations, Promotion and Protocol, Amalia Meutia M.Psi., Psychologist, revealed that the meaning of this event is to enliven the Indonesian Independence Day.
"If the meaning, anyway, this is one form of our enthusiasm in enlivening this August 17, so. So with this spirit we realize it in competitions to make our 17-an competition festive," he said.
Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D, as Vice Dean I of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, said that the assessment of this karaoke competition was by seeing how the participants sang the song according to the tone.
"Actually, we try not to be too complicated. We see participants who can sing, meaning they are not out of tune, can sing the melody well, then the lyrics are also memorized. So we try to look at that, right, the average participant is an amateur academic community. So we want to have fun, that's the most important thing.
Vice Dean I Faculty of Cultural Sciences added that with this competition, it could add insight to educators outside of their administrative abilities.
"We hope that the rector's bureau can make this bigger, yes, so that this activity also adds insight to employees or lecturers to sing then their abilities are beyond administrative skills, but there is art," she added.
