USU Attends the Inaugural Speech of the Mayor of Medan

HUMAS USU - The Secretary of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp. O.G, Subsp. F.E.R attended the Inaugural Speech of the Mayor of Medan for the 2025-2030 period, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, during the Plenary Session of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) of Medan City at the DPRD Office of Medan City on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
As the newly appointed Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas delivered his inaugural speech after being officially sworn in on February 20, 2025. In his speech, he outlined the vision of "Medan Bertuah," which is inclusive, advanced, and sustainable. He also introduced several priority programs, including the implementation of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Premium, digital transformation of public services, eradication of drugs and online gambling, and equal access to education by establishing outstanding schools in Medan City.
"We will enhance public service delivery through information technology by utilizing digital platforms commonly used by the people of Medan City," he stated.
The speech received a positive response from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), as conveyed by the USU secretary. Fidel expressed his support for the ongoing collaboration and was optimistic that the new Mayor's leadership would bring greater benefits.
"I am confident that the newly appointed Mayor will continue to improve what is already good and make it even better, bringing greater benefits to Indonesia, North Sumatra, and particularly Medan City, as well as for USU," stated Prof. Fidel.
The Secretary of USU also appreciated the Mayor's openness to receiving criticism and input from academics and students for the better development of Medan City.
"With openness, he and his deputy will accept all constructive criticism that offers solutions, especially from academics and students," said Prof. Fidel.
Finally, the Secretary of USU expressed his hope that the newly appointed Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Medan would continue the cooperation that has been established so far. The successes achieved previously are expected to serve as a guideline for strengthening collaboration for the progress of Medan City in the future.
