PADANG, USU PUBLIC RELATIONS — A remarkable achievement was once again recorded by a student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), on the international stage. T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar, a student of the Agribusiness Study Program, contributed to the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) seminar team’s success in winning two top honors at the 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026, held at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP).

At the event, which brought together students and academic communities from various higher education institutions across the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) region, the USU seminar team secured two Gold Medals, in the Best Presentation and Best Paper categories, respectively.

The achievement is a source of pride for USU and demonstrates the ability of its students to develop academic ideas, produce scholarly work, and present their research at an international forum involving participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Contribution of an Agribusiness Student from FP USU

One of the students representing USU as part of its seminar team was T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar (Student ID 230304001) from the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

In addition to contributing to the USU seminar team’s success in securing two Gold Medals, Rifky also achieved an individual accomplishment by winning a Bronze Medal in the Best Effort for Mix Group category. He received the award for his participation in a mixed group consisting of participants from different countries.

This cross-border collaboration provided Rifky with valuable experience in developing communication, teamwork, and adaptability skills while working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

Participation in the mixed group also gave Rifky an opportunity to expand his international network while strengthening the interpersonal skills needed in both academic and professional environments.

A Platform for International Competition and Collaboration

The 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026 is an international event that not only focuses on competition but also serves as a platform for strengthening friendship, enhancing cooperation among universities, and building student networks across the IMT-GT region.

In 2026, the IMT-GT Varsity Carnival featured three main areas: sports competitions, cultural performances, and academic seminars. The participation of USU students in the event was part of the university’s efforts to broaden students’ experiences and international exposure through direct interaction with participants from different countries.

For students, forums such as this provide opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, presentation, and teamwork skills, while also gaining a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives in an international environment.

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The participation and achievements of FP USU students at the 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026 are also aligned with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Through SDG 4, the event supports student competency development through learning experiences beyond the classroom, particularly in academic skills, critical thinking, communication, presentation, and collaboration.

Meanwhile, SDG 17 is reflected in the interactions and collaborations among students and higher education institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The experience of working in cross-border groups represents an important step toward building educational networks and partnerships at the regional level.

T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar’s achievement, together with the USU seminar team, demonstrates that students of the Faculty of Agriculture are capable not only of achieving individual excellence but also of contributing to the university’s accomplishments on the international stage.

The Faculty of Agriculture, USU, continues to encourage students to take advantage of various academic and non-academic opportunities as platforms to develop their potential, broaden their perspectives, build networks, and proudly represent the Faculty of Agriculture and Universitas Sumatera Utara at both national and international levels.
