Literasi Keuangan Indonesia Terdepan (Like It) 2026 and the Education and Socialization of Savings Bond Retail Series SBR015 were held under the theme “Financially Smart in the Digital Era: Wise Transactions, Safe Investments.” The activity provided students with an opportunity to gain first-hand insights from practitioners and policymakers in the financial sector, particularly regarding investment and retail Government Securities (SBN).

USU PUBLIC RELATIONS – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) strengthened its collaboration with the Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia through an educational activity on investment and government financing management involving students from the USU Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). The activity was held at the Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hall, FEB USU, on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

The activity featured Literasi Keuangan Indonesia Terdepan (Like It) 2026 and the Education and Socialization of Savings Bond Retail Series SBR015 under the theme “Financially Smart in the Digital Era: Wise Transactions, Safe Investments.” The activity provided students with an opportunity to gain first-hand insights from practitioners and policymakers in the financial sector, particularly regarding investment and retail Government Securities (SBN).

USU Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., representing the USU Rector, welcomed the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), and other stakeholders in the event.

In his remarks, Prof. Himsar said the meeting provided an important opportunity for students to learn directly from those involved in formulating and implementing policies in the financial sector.

“Please make the most of this opportunity and learn from practitioners and policymakers. I am sure there is a great deal of knowledge you can gain from this meeting,” Prof. Himsar said.

He further stated that activities such as this are important for improving public understanding of financial systems and investment. The participation of speakers with first-hand experience in the financial sector was considered valuable in providing students with a more comprehensive understanding. One of the topics highlighted during the event was the development of retail SBN as an investment instrument.

“Education about financial systems like this is very important, particularly to ensure that investment decisions are not based solely on trends, social media recommendations, or information that may not necessarily be accurate,” he said.

On the same occasion, Secretary General of Financing and Risk Management, Ubaidi Socheh Hamidi, S.E., M.M., explained that financial literacy is not merely about investment products, but also provides the foundation for financial planning, controlling consumer behavior, understanding risks, and choosing legal investments that align with individual needs.

Geopolitical dynamics, technological changes, and developments in financial markets continue to require people to become increasingly adaptive. Amid these conditions, he noted, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) had reported that Indonesia’s economy grew by 5.29% in the second quarter of 2026. This provides an important foundation for maintaining the momentum of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

“In facing these changes, the ability to manage finances is no longer merely an additional skill, but a basic competency. Young people need to be able to manage, develop, and protect their financial assets wisely,” he said.

With SBN, the public can not only contribute to development financing but also receive financial benefits that support individual well-being. A sound understanding of investment instruments such as SBN can encourage people to take a more active role in managing their assets and personal financial planning. This is an initial step toward fostering a healthy and sustainable investment culture.
