“This job fair is not just a recruitment space but also a strategic forum for exchanging ideas in building a more competitive career ecosystem amid globalization,” said Prof. Poppy.
Public Relations USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is strengthening its role as a globally competitive higher education institution through strategic collaboration with the China-Indonesia Cultural and Educational Exchange Association (CICEEA) in the USU × China Industries Job Fair 2025. The event will occur over two days, Monday–Tuesday (May 26–27, 2025). It will include two main agendas: a Job Fair and a Leadership Forum (Leader Forum) held at the Pancasila Building and the Digital Learning Center Building, 8th Floor, USU.
This event marks the first international job fair bringing together job seekers with Chinese companies operating in the Sumatra region. Beyond recruitment, this job fair is a collaborative platform between the education sector and industry to address global labor market challenges.
The Leader Forum on the second day provides a critical space to discuss “Enhancing Graduate Quality in the International Labor Market.” The forum brought together various stakeholders, including CEOs of Chinese investment companies, university leaders from various regions in Sumatra, and faculty leaders from USU. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to preparing graduates who are not only job-ready but also globally competitive.
USU Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., stated in her opening remarks that this event represents a concrete step by USU to bridge the gap between the academic world and the needs of the international industry.
“This job fair is not just a recruitment space but also a strategic forum for exchanging ideas in building a more competitive career ecosystem amid globalization,” said Prof. Poppy.
During the Leader Forum session, various speakers from across sectors shared insights and strategies for human resource development relevant to global industry needs. In the first session, participants included Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., Director of Internationalization and Global Partnerships at USU; Bai Jinsong, CEO of PT Perl Rever Indonesia; and Hu Haibin, President of CICEEA. They discussed the role of each institution in facilitating technology transfer and enhancing Indonesia's human resource capacity through education-industry synergy.
The second forum featured representatives from the Ministry of Manpower, PT Dairi Prima Mineral, PT North Sumatera Hydro Energy, and PT Bintan Alumina Indonesia, who also highlighted the importance of integrating curricula with industry needs, enhancing cross-cultural skills, and strengthening the capacity of educational institutions to embrace technology-driven industrial transformation and sustainability.
The discussion covered various aspects, including the importance of integrating curricula with industry needs, enhancing soft skills and cross-cultural competencies, and the readiness of educational institutions to address the needs of technology-driven industrial transformation and sustainability. The CEOs emphasized that one of the key factors in the smooth transfer of Chinese industrial technology to Indonesia is the quality of graduates who are adaptable and possess superior technical competencies.
The Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the North Sumatra Provincial Secretariat, Drs. Basarin Yunus Tanjung, M.Si., also expressed appreciation for the event. According to him, such activities play a strategic role in building bridges between technology, culture, and Indonesia's workforce.
“This event not only opens up job opportunities abroad but also serves as a real platform for technology and cultural exchange between Indonesia and China,” he stated.
The spirit of collaboration in the USU × China Industries Job Fair 2025 aligns with the policy direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who emphasized in his speech at the Indonesia–China Business Reception that China is Indonesia's largest trading partner, with trade value exceeding 130 billion USD per year.
With over 20 CEOs from Chinese companies and regional university representatives, USU further solidifies its position as a hub for educational collaboration and innovation in Sumatra. Additionally, this event is expected to serve as a gateway for further cooperation, such as international internships, student exchanges, and research collaborations.
Through this program, USU expands its global partnership network and reaffirms its commitment to producing graduates who are relevant, highly competitive, and ready to fill strategic positions in the digital economy and global industry.
