"Pesan saya, perubahan teknologi saat ini banyak mengubah hal di industri, tapi sebenarnya bukan menghilangkan profesinya, melainkan menghilangkan cara bekerjanya," katanya.

HUMAS USU – Minister of Manpower Prof. Yassierli, Ph.D. delivered a public lecture entitled "Preparing Outstanding Human Resources for the Future" at the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

The event was attended by the USU Vice Rector for Planning, Infrastructure, and Business, Dr. Muhammad Anggia Muchtar, S.T., M.M.IT, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Collaboration, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., USU Secretary Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., along with hundreds of students and members of the USU academic community.

During his lecture, the Minister of Manpower discussed the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, which are reshaping the world of work.

"My message is that technological advancements are transforming many aspects of industry. However, technology is not eliminating professions—it is changing the way people work," he said.

Prof. Yassierli emphasized that these changes should be viewed as an important opportunity to prepare highly capable and competitive human resources for the future.

On the same occasion, USU Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Collaboration, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., stated that the public lecture served as an important opportunity for students to gain firsthand insights into the direction of Indonesia's human resource development amid an increasingly dynamic global landscape.

"Higher education institutions play a strategic role in producing graduates who are not only academically excellent but also adaptable, innovative, and competitive in the workforce," he said.

Furthermore, USU Secretary Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., explained that the lecture aimed to provide students with a clear understanding of Indonesia's current employment landscape and the competencies required by today's industries.

"Strengthening skills is essential, as they have become a key factor in competing successfully in today's job market," he said.

Through this public lecture, Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes its students will be better prepared to enter the workforce by continuously improving their competencies, developing relevant skills, and enhancing their ability to adapt to the rapid changes of the modern era.
