USU PR – Students of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) have once again achieved outstanding accomplishments in a national competition. This time, USU students won awards in various categories at the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an Mahasiswa Nasional (MTQMN) XVIII, which was held on October 6–9, 2025, at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, South Kalimantan.

In this national competition, a total of 20 USU students were sent as delegates to the 18th Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an Mahasiswa Nasional (MTQMN) in 2025. Several competition categories were participated in by USU representatives, including Tartil, Qira’at Sab’ah, Syahril, Fahmil, and Calligraphy.

On this occasion, four USU students achieved championship titles in several categories. Among them was a student from the Faculty of Engineering, Wildan Novaili, who won first place in the Tilawatil Qur’an (Male) category.

Furthermore, a student from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Alya Assyifa Irfani Sani, won second place in the Tartil Qur’an (Female) category; a student from the Faculty of Public Health, Khairun Hafiyya, won third place in the Qira’ah Sab’ah (Female) category; and lastly, a student from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Kiki Mayriyadhil Jannah, secured first place in the Hifzil Qur’an 10 Juz category.

The Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., through Vice Rector I Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., who was present in person to motivate USU students at the competition, expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the 20 USU student delegates.

“Of course, in every competition there are victories and defeats; however, hopefully this experience will serve as valuable preparation to compete and further develop potential in the future,” he stated in his remarks on Tuesday (10/14/2025).

Prof. Edy said that the university leadership continues to encourage and provide broad opportunities for students to achieve accomplishments in national and international competitions. Prior to their departure, the student delegates were trained by coaches provided by USU.

“We provide full support to the students. Regardless of the outcome, we strive to give our best. Alhamdulillah, in this MTQMN competition, our students managed to win championships in several categories, which is certainly a proud achievement,” he said.

The overall championship rankings of MTQMN XVIII 2025 at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, South Kalimantan, were as follows: First Place: Universitas Islam Indonesia; Second Place: Universitas Negeri Malang; Third Place: Universitas Lambung Mangkurat; Fourth Place: Universitas Gadjah Mada; Fifth Place: Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta; Sixth Place: Universitas Sumatera Utara; Seventh Place: Universitas Syiah Kuala; Eighth Place: Universitas Brawijaya; Ninth Place: Universitas Islam Kalimantan Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari; and Tenth Place: Universitas Hasanuddin.
