“FISIP has reaffirmed its position as an intellectual home that has produced many prominent figures,” said the Rector of USU.

USU PR – A solemn yet festive atmosphere enveloped the Hall of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), on Thursday (11/6/2025). Marking its 45th anniversary, the faculty—widely known as an “intellectual home”—celebrated its Dies Natalis by carrying the overarching theme “Creating Future Leader,” reaffirming its vision of nurturing future leaders.

The Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., in his remarks, expressed high appreciation. He stated that this year’s Dies Natalis theme reflects FISIP’s grand vision as an institution that not only produces knowledgeable graduates, but also individuals with strong character who are capable of leading change.

“FISIP has reaffirmed its position as an intellectual home that has produced many prominent figures,” said Rector Muryanto.

In his report, the Dean of FISIP USU, Dr. Hatta Ridho, S.Sos., MSP., presented the faculty’s impressive transformation. Recalling FISIP’s history, which began in 1980 with only two study programs, he explained that the faculty now oversees 3,181 undergraduate students, 311 master’s students, and 118 doctoral students, supported by 117 lecturers, including 17 Professors and 64 Doctorate holders.

“However, now there are already 15 study programs,” said Dr. Hatta.

Accreditation achievements became a major highlight. Dr. Hatta detailed that of the seven undergraduate programs, six have attained the national “Excellent” (Unggul) accreditation status. Beyond the national level, FISIP USU has also gained recognition on the global stage, with five study programs already holding international accreditation.

“Five study programs, praise be to God, successfully achieved international accreditation at the beginning of this year, namely Political Science, Communication Science, Sociology, Social Welfare, and Social Anthropology,” he explained.

The Chair of the Dies Natalis Committee, Prof. Dr. Iskandar Zulkarnain, M.Si., explained that the celebration will run until November 12, 2025. A series of events has been designed to engage all segments, starting with an e-sports competition held today. The events will continue with an academic rally featuring successful alumni such as Andi Rengreng (Marketing Director of Xiaomi Indonesia) and Usman Kansong (Special Staff to the Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia).

Prof. Iskandar also highlighted the high enthusiasm for the various competitions held, particularly the national-level essay competition, which attracted 169 participants from across Indonesia. The series of events will conclude with a fun walk and a blood donation activity.

The peak of the celebration will be held on Saturday (11/8) with a fun walk and a scientific oration featuring the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Viada Hafid, and the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Fauzi.
