HUMAS USU - The 23rd Anniversary of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Dental Hospital (RSGM) is themed “Dental Treatment with Interdisciplinary Approaches in Dental Hospitals.” The event series includes a scientific seminar aligned with the chosen theme, followed by community service activities at the Binjai Police Station. The event occurred at the Nazir Alwi Building of the USU Faculty of Dentistry on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

The theme “Dental Treatment with Interdisciplinary Approaches in Dental Hospital” for the 23rd anniversary of RSGM USU is highly relevant to the challenges and needs of modern healthcare services. Oral health is no longer viewed in isolation but as integral to a person’s holistic health. Interdisciplinary approaches in diagnosis, treatment, and patient rehabilitation ensure the success of healthcare services.

Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. Drs. Opim Salim Sitompul, M.Sc., noted that the RSGM has demonstrated its capacity not only as a clinical service center but also as a space for scientific collaboration among various branches of dental medicine, general medicine, health technology, and even social sciences and patient psychology.

“This is an important moment to reflect on the long journey, hard work, and extraordinary dedication poured into the development of quality oral and dental health,” said Prof. Opim in his opening remarks during the RSGM USU anniversary celebration.

Dr. Rini Octavia Nasution, M.Kes, Sp.Perio., Subsp.RPID (K), Deputy Dean II of the USU Faculty of Dentistry, stated that as a dental hospital, its role is to fulfill the three pillars of higher education and serve as a research and innovation center and a hub for community service. “It can become an innovative RSGM, adaptable to technological developments, and a referral center in North Sumatra and at the national level,” she said.

Furthermore, the USU Dental Hospital Director, Dr. Siti Salmiah, Sp.KGA, Subsp.KKA (K), invited various partners to collaborate with insurance companies and healthcare providers so that dental care can be referred to the USU Dental Hospital.

“With partners, since partners provide healthcare services or health insurance, we hope they can refer dental care to the RSGM,” she explained.

The scientific seminar featured four Department of Dental Services (DPJP) speakers, with approximately 100 participants from various institutions in attendance. It served as both a service and a platform for updating knowledge and technology in dentistry.
