USU PR - Secretary of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Prof. Dr. dr. M. Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked (OG), SpOG(K) attended the opening of the 38th Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) at the North Sumatra Province level in 2022 which was centered on the North Sumatra State Islamic University (UIN) campus, Monday ( 21/03/2022). The festival, which lasts for a week from March 21-28, was opened by the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi.

Prof. Fidel said this MTQ activity cannot be separated from Islamic religious education taught at universities, one of which is USU.

"MTQ is an Islamic religious festival in Indonesia to glorify the Koran, participants compete to recite the Koran using qiraat, reading the Koran containing recitation, art, and reading ethics. Of course this is related to Islamic religious education in universities," he explained.

According to him, Islam in universities provides a foundation for personality development for students. Later, they become believers and fear God Almighty, have noble character, think philosophically, and act rationally and dynamically.

It is in line with USU's vision and mission to produce quality graduates who can develop knowledge in accordance with morals and religion.

“USU fully supports this activity. If current UINSU can do it, maybe we can also hold MTQ at the PTN-BH level or state universities one day," he said.

The Governor of North Sumatra said this MTQ activity could increase the piety of the community through reading the Koran and its meaning. "People will be pious in this world, that's what we hope for," he said.

Edy Rahmayadi also hopes this activity can be gradual, multilevel and continuous. The winner who will represent North Sumatra is expected to be able to achieve achievements at the national level.

“We hope to get the best out of everything. Participants do their best, God willing, the best will win," he said.

The number of participants in this event was represented by 34 Regencies in the province of North Sumatra and Private Islamic Universities in the Kopertais Region IX area of ​​North Sumatra.

The number contested at the 38th MTQ are the art of reading the Koran, the branch of qir'at the Koran, the branch of memorizing the Koran, the branch of Koranic interpretation, the branch of understanding the Koran, the branch of syarh Koran, the branch of the art of Koran calligraphy, the branch of Koranic scientific writing (KTIQ).
