Dekan FP USU, Prof. Dr. Ir.

The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of North Sumatra (FP USU), in collaboration with Regal Springs Indonesia, held a public lecture titled “Next Wave Leaders: Mastering Aquaculture & Industry Skills” on Wednesday (April 22, 2026), at Classroom I, FP USU.

The Dean of FP USU, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., stated that the public lecture is one of the implementations of the partnership between FP USU and Regal Springs Indonesia. In addition to the lecture, the collaboration also provides opportunities for FP USU alumni to work at Regal Springs Indonesia, as well as internship opportunities for USU students. He emphasized that this initiative is highly beneficial for students, both in terms of knowledge and industry networking.

“They recruit our alumni for employment, provide internship opportunities for our students, and are now delivering a public lecture at FP USU,” he explained.

On the same occasion, Prof. Tavi Supriana noted that collaboration with Regal Springs Indonesia opens significant opportunities for the development of the Aquatic Resources Management study program at FP USU. He expressed hope that more graduates from the program will soon join the aquaculture industry.

“This is an opportunity for us to further develop the Aquatic Resources Management study program in the future,” he added.

The President Director of Regal Springs Indonesia, Rudolf Hoeffelman, M.M., explained that the company plays a global role in providing sustainable protein through agriculture, particularly aquaculture. He noted that Regal Springs Indonesia, which operates in Lake Toba, currently produces around 30,000 tons annually, with 90% of its output exported. This contribution not only generates significant foreign exchange for the country but also creates employment opportunities for local communities.

“Approximately 90 percent of our production is exported, generating substantial foreign exchange—not only for the government but also for communities through job creation,” he said.

Rudolf Hoeffelman further emphasized that aquaculture involves responsible stewardship of natural resources, balancing business growth with environmental sustainability, and making long-term decisions that impact society, ecosystems, and future generations. He expressed hope that the public lecture would inspire FP USU students to pursue careers and leadership roles in the aquaculture industry, particularly at Regal Springs Indonesia.

“The most important thing is to stay curious, keep learning, and never be afraid to dream big,” he concluded.
