HUMAS - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the 6th Friendly City International Conference. With the theme "Redefining Friendly City in The New Era", the event was officially opened after the beating of the gong by USU Rector Dr. Muryanto Amin., S.Sos., M.Sc. at Grand City Hall on Thursday, (09/08/2022).

In his speech, the Rector greatly appreciated this 6th international conference because in addition to supporting campus internationalization, it was also a form of USU's follow-up in contributing to development. Therefore, this activity involves the Department of Architecture, Master of Architecture program, Doctor of Architecture program, and Urban Planning Science.

The Rector hopes that this conference can explore and explore concepts and discourses about the opportunities and challenges of urban communities in developing a friendly, modern area, and supporting the reforestation movement.

In addition, this conference will produce many reading recommendations for researchers and policy makers. "There are a lot of recommendations that this conference came up with," he said.

The Chairperson of the Friendly City International Conference Committee, namely Prof. Ir. Nurlisa Ginting, M.Sc., Ph.D, IPM explained, this event aims to accommodate academics, researchers, and also policy makers to discuss research related to Friendly City, so that later research results can increase USU publications.

"So the goal is to discuss research that will later be shared, so it also increases publications, especially for USU," explained Prof. Nurlisa.

By holding this international conference, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Fahmi, ST, M.Sc.IPM hopes that this program can support the campus internationalization program that is being promoted by USU because this activity invites speakers from abroad and is attended by participants from several countries such as Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, China, Italy, and others.
