PUBLIC RELATIONS USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully organized the USU 2025 Outstanding Student Selection and Award with the theme “Impactful Campus: Creating Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Indonesia.” The event was held at two locations, namely the Central Administration Building and the Digital Learning Center Building at USU, on Monday-Tuesday (June 23-24, 2025).

USU Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., stated that the USU 2025 Outstanding Student Selection and Awards Ceremony is not only a prestigious platform for academically outstanding students but also for those who have made a tangible impact on society. This event aims to foster a community of students who are solution-oriented, practical, and forward-thinking. 

“Pilmapres is an annual prestigious award ceremony for students who are not only academically outstanding but also have a tangible impact on society,” he said.

The Vice Rector I of USU hopes that sportsmanship will be upheld and that the individual growth that takes place during the event will be valued. He also commended the students' hard work in demonstrating their abilities and skills during the event. Whether they win or lose, he believes all participants have become examples of the resilience and excellence of Indonesian students. 

“Each of you represents the spirit of excellence and the resilient character of Indonesian students,” he said.

The Director of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations at USU, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., stated that 17 students participated in the USU PILMAPRES 2025, 9 from the science and technology field and 8 from the social sciences and humanities field. A panel of 7 judges with diverse academic backgrounds will evaluate these 17 students objectively and in accordance with guidelines.  

“The judging process is objective and follows the guidelines,” she said

.

The chair of the judging panel, Dr. Rusdi Noor Rosa, S.S., M.Hum., mentioned that the two main criteria for determining the winners of the USU 2025 PILMAPRES are the participants’ outstanding achievements and the scientific ideas presented in their works. Additionally, the participants’ ability to present their ideas in English will also be evaluated in the USU 2025 PILMAPRES.

“The two main criteria for evaluation are outstanding achievements and scientific research ideas,” he said.

The winner of the USU 2025 PILMAPRES will represent USU and be registered with the Higher Education Services Agency (LLDIKTI) Region I to participate in the regional-level selection process.
