”Kami bangga, kami sangat bangga. Jadi anak-anaknya (mahasiswa USU) to the point, kritis, tapi konstruktif. Kita harus bina mereka. Generasi kita akan datang,” ungkap Amran Sulaiman dalam kuliah umum ini.

USU Public Relations – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted a public lecture featuring the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. H. Andi Amran Sulaiman, M.P., under the theme "Innovation and Collaboration of the Young Generation Towards Food Self-Sufficiency" at the USU Auditorium on Wednesday (July 15, 2026).

The public lecture provided an opportunity for the USU academic community, particularly students, to gain deeper insights into the vital role of young people in strengthening Indonesia's national food security through innovation and cross-sector collaboration. The theme was intended to encourage the academic community to generate new ideas and make meaningful contributions toward achieving national food self-sufficiency.

During the event, the Minister of Agriculture expressed his appreciation for the aspirations and constructive input shared by USU students, particularly regarding fertilizer availability and staple food issues. He emphasized that perspectives from academics and the younger generation are essential in formulating more effective and targeted agricultural policies.

"We are proud—very proud. The USU students are straightforward, critical, yet constructive. We must continue to nurture them. They are our future generation," said Andi Amran Sulaiman during the public lecture.

In his presentation, the Minister began by outlining the national food self-sufficiency agenda initiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the initiative is not merely aimed at increasing food production, but also represents a broader effort to strengthen national independence through a resilient agricultural sector supported by innovation, technology, and collaboration among all sectors of society.

The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., stated that the Minister's visit provided a valuable opportunity for the university community to gain first-hand perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing Indonesia's agricultural sector.

According to the Rector, universities play a strategic role in developing innovative, adaptive, and solution-oriented young leaders who are capable of addressing national challenges, including the realization of food self-sufficiency.

"We strive to bring inspiring and exemplary figures to our students. Through our lecturers and distinguished public figures, they can share their life experiences and knowledge—insights that deserve our attention and can inspire the next generation," said the Rector.

At the conclusion of the public lecture, students were encouraged to continue developing their capabilities, think innovatively, and strengthen collaboration in addressing challenges within the agricultural sector. With support from higher education institutions, the government, and other stakeholders, the younger generation is expected to become a driving force in achieving food self-sufficiency while reinforcing Indonesia's long-term food security.
