USU PR – The Faculty of Vocational Studies at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the inauguration of the Faculty of Vocational Studies Student Executive Board (BEM) management for the 2026–2027 period. The inauguration took place at the Student Center Building on Monday (August 10, 2026).

Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni (Ditmawalumni) at USU, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Purwoko, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., explained that the student government system (PEMIRA) was established as a learning laboratory for state governance and civic education. Through BEM, students are provided with a meaningful space for hands-on learning to develop their leadership, managerial, rhetorical, and public communication skills in addressing various organizational challenges.

“Through BEM, you as students can gain a much more meaningful space for direct learning to develop your potential in leadership, management, rhetoric, and public communication while facing various organizational challenges,” he explained.

He also conveyed the commitment of Ditmawalumni USU, together with the Rectorate and the Directorate General of Higher Education, to building an integrated achievement ecosystem. The university has provided various forms of recognition and incentives, including a policy that recognizes organizational activities and competition achievements as part of the credit weight of courses.

Murniati Br. Barus, S.S., M.Pd., Head of the Japanese Language Diploma 3 Study Program and a representative of the Faculty of Vocational Studies leadership, reminded the newly inaugurated student leaders of the importance of maintaining integrity, honesty, and a sense of responsibility in carrying out their leadership roles. She also encouraged the BEM and students to maintain harmonious relationships without barriers or divisions and urged continued collaboration between the new management and the previous administration.

“I would also like to remind you that it is very important to maintain integrity, honesty, and a sense of responsibility when carrying out leadership in this organization and wherever you may be,” she said.

Chairman of BEM USU, Angga Alma’arif Harahap, reminded the new management that their positions in BEM represent a major responsibility entrusted to them by the entire student body. He therefore encouraged the newly inaugurated Faculty of Vocational Studies BEM management to generate concrete ideas that provide meaningful spaces for students and create tangible impact.

In line with this, Kidung Agung Rusanto Ujung, the newly elected Chairman of the Faculty of Vocational Studies BEM, expressed his commitment to making BEM an inclusive home for all students, including those who have been less active or have yet to find opportunities to develop themselves. He also emphasized that the success of his administration would be measured by how much benefit and presence BEM provides to students, rather than simply by the number of work programs carried out.

“BEM will be a home that is inclusive for all students, not only for active students, but also for those who have been passive or have yet to find a space to grow,” he said.
