ICTROMI 2025: Management of Infectious Diseases

USU PR – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), held the 5th ICTROMI (International Conference on Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases) 2025 under the theme “Sepsis, Pneumonia, and Beyond: Integrated Approaches to Infectious Disease Management Across the Lifespan.” The conference served as a forum for sharing knowledge in the field of health. The event took place at Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel from Thursday to Sunday (04–07/12/2025).
ICTROMI 2025 became an important platform for experts to exchange perspectives through scientific sessions, symposia, and panel discussions highlighting integrated strategies for addressing infectious diseases, including cases of sepsis, pneumonia, and various global health issues. The conference also featured Prof. Stella Christie, A.B., Ph.D., Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG, Subsp.F.E.R., expressed support for the implementation of the congress as a means of strengthening research and cross-disciplinary collaboration. In addition to presenting the latest scientific findings, the conference also provided opportunities for participants to expand their academic and professional networks. “ICTROMI 2025 is not merely a scientific meeting, but also a bridge connecting various fields of knowledge,” said Prof. Fidel.
On the same occasion, Prof. Stella Christie stated that with technological advancements accompanied by increased research capacity, various innovations in the health sector can be developed more effectively and in a more targeted manner. ICTROMI serves as a strategic platform to introduce the latest approaches in managing infectious diseases more rapidly and accurately.

Furthermore, Prof. Stella noted that Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. In terms of disease transmission, this condition can have a broad impact on society. Therefore, comprehensive prevention and management efforts are essential to reduce the risk of widespread transmission. “We are the fourth largest country in the world, so in terms of infectious diseases, whatever happens in our country will have a significant impact on the world,” she said.
On the same occasion, Dr. dr. Bastian Lubis, M.Ked(An), Sp.An-Ti, Subsp.TI(K), as the Chair of the Organizing Committee, stated that the series of events included workshops, pre-congress symposia, followed by ICTROMI 2025. The activities were attended by researchers, academics, and practitioners from international networks.
“This conference brings together various researchers who are experts in their respective fields. It is an honor for us to have the opportunity to host and facilitate the implementation of this event,” said Dr. Bastian.
