House of Representatives Commission X Visits USU to Discuss New Student Admissions

USU PR – The Working Committee of Commission X of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) conducted a working visit to Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) at the DLCB Building on Friday (June 26, 2026). The visit focused on discussions regarding the new student admission process.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chair of Commission X of the DPR RI, Dr. Hj. Kurniasih Mufidayati, M.Si., and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt.
Prof. Poppy stated that the visit served as an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions and the government in improving a new student admission system that is more transparent and equitable.
"New student admissions are not merely an administrative process, but the gateway to educational opportunities that can transform the future," she said.
She also emphasized that USU remains committed to improving the governance of its admission system by upholding the principles of objectivity, transparency, and equal access to education.
"We are committed to strengthening a new student admission system that is objective, transparent, and provides the broadest possible opportunities for all prospective students," she added.

Deputy Chair of Commission X of the DPR RI, Dr. Hj. Kurniasih Mufidayati, M.Si., explained that the visit was part of the House of Representatives' efforts to gather aspirations and input from universities regarding the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB), which has become a matter of national concern.
"The New Student Admission System is a serious issue that we need to discuss together to ensure fairness and equality in higher education," she said.
She further explained that Commission X continues to encourage improvements to the admission system so that it becomes more inclusive and provides equal opportunities for all prospective students, both at public and private higher education institutions.
"We hope that in the future the system will better accommodate fairness for all prospective students, whether they are applying to public or private universities," she added.
Through this working visit, it is expected that strategic recommendations will be formulated to further improve the new student admission system while strengthening collaboration between the government and higher education institutions in enhancing the quality of national education.
