Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held its 2026 Ecumenical Easter Celebration at the USU Auditorium on Wednesday (April 22, 2026). The event carried the theme “The Light of Easter Becomes a Blessing for Others” as a reflection of the values of resurrection, hope, and compassion amid diversity. The celebration was attended by members of the academic community, alumni, and invited guests.
In his remarks, the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Himsar Ambarita, stated that the Ecumenical Easter celebration is not only a religious event but also part of the university’s role in fostering humanitarian values. He emphasized that USU should be a space that supports all religious activities while encouraging students to actively contribute to social justice.
“The spirit of Easter must be realized through students’ real contributions in accordance with their respective competencies, while also supporting the vision of an impactful campus and the achievement of the Ultimate Excellence era,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the 2026 Ecumenical Easter Celebration Committee, Tunggul Sihombing, explained that this year’s celebration had unique elements compared to previous years. The event featured a full Eucharistic Celebration involving an Archbishop and received support from various Christian denominations within USU. “This celebration is an important moment to strengthen unity and tolerance within the campus environment,” he noted.
Representing the Governor of North Sumatra, Agustinus Panjaitan, Head of the Provincial Transportation Office, expressed appreciation for the event. He highlighted that the Ecumenical Easter celebration serves as a meaningful moment to reinforce spiritual values, collaboration, and tolerance in a diverse society.
“The spirit of Easter aligns with regional development efforts that emphasize togetherness, justice, and welfare. We encourage students to continue contributing to development while upholding the values of unity,” he said.
This event served as a moment of reflection for all participants to deepen their understanding of the values of resurrection, strengthen their faith, and bring light and blessings to others in their daily lives.
