PUBLIC RELATIONS USU - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day, with the theme “United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, Prosperous Indonesia.”

The ceremony took place solemnly at the USU Rectorate Building on Sunday, August 17, 2025, with USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., serving as the ceremony's presiding officer. The ceremony was marked by the raising of the red and white flag by the USU Student Battalion (Menwa), which was received with great respect by all participants.

This historic moment was followed by the presentation of the Karya Satya Medal to employees with 10, 20, and 30 years of service.

The award, based on the Decision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, was read by the Acting Head of the Human Resources Bureau of USU, Dr. Abdillah Arif Nasution, SE., M.Si., Ak, CA., QGIA.

The Secretary of USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.O.G., Subsp.F.E.R., explained the significance of the theme of the 80th Independence Day for the university.

He emphasized that the spirit of “United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia” aligns with USU's commitment to strengthening collaboration among academic staff in creating an inclusive, innovative, and highly competitive academic environment. According to him, this will support improving education, research, and community service that have a tangible impact on society.

Furthermore, Prof. Fidel emphasized that USU's tangible contributions to filling the void of independence are realized through various forms of services and community service.

This includes providing educational and health services through USU Hospital, free medical treatment for the surrounding community, skill development programs, and small business mentoring.

As the culmination of the series of events, the winners of the competitions held throughout August, ranging from sports to social media management competitions, were announced.

The announcement was greeted with enthusiasm and added to the festive atmosphere of the commemoration, reflecting the academic community's enthusiasm in celebrating Independence Day.
