MEDAN – Public Relations USU: Universitas Sumatera Utara held the first day of its Independent Student Selection (SMM) 2025 on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) at 16 exam locations within the campus grounds. The SMM USU will take place over three days, from June 10 to 11, 2025, with 5,454 participants.

The Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si, conducted an inspection of the exam proceedings on the first day, accompanied by Vice Rectors I, II, III, IV, and V, the university secretary, directors of various departments and agencies, as well as other unit heads who served as members of the SMM USU 2025 organizing committee. The Rector inspected several examination rooms at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI). The selection process took place in three sessions: the first from 6:30 AM to 9:15 AM, the second from 10:15 AM to 1:00 PM, and the third from 2:15 PM to 5:00 PM.

On behalf of the USU Rector, the First Vice Rector of USU, who also serves as the Chair of the USU SMM 2025 Implementation Team, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, SH, MA, explained that USU has allocated 2,652 seats, or approximately 45 percent of the applicants.

“The number of participants in the USU SMM this year, Alhamdulillah, has seen a slight increase compared to last year. USU will also hold the second phase of the SMM in July to anticipate the possibility of successful candidates who did not re-register,” said Prof. Edy Ikhsan.

The Director of the Directorate of Educational Development at USU, Ir Ikhsan Siregar, ST, M.Eng, as Secretary of the USU SMM Implementation Team, added that the decision to conduct the second phase of the SMM was made because 450 prospective students did not re-register last year, leaving a significant number of vacant seats.

“So we are trying to anticipate the possibility of those empty seats. After the SNBT re-registration, SMM Phase 1, and SMM PTN Barat, we will compile the number of prospective students who did not re-register. That number will be opened in SMM Phase 2. It will only apply to certain programs,” said Ir Ikhsan Siregar.

The 2025 USU SMM has 66 rooms and 1,585 examinees per session. The subjects tested include scholastic aptitude tests, English literacy tests, Indonesian literacy tests, and mathematical reasoning tests. The results of the SMM exam will be announced on June 20, 2025.

Meanwhile, online registration for the SMM PTN Barat exam opened on June 4, 2025, and will close on June 12, 2025. The exam will take place from June 17 to 24, 2025, with results announced on June 30, 2025. Meanwhile, the second phase of the SMM will open its online registration from June 21 to July 10, 2025, with the exam taking place from July 13 to 15, 2025, and the results announced on July 22, 2025.
